Chastity

Chastity for the sake of the kingdom frees our heart for an undivided love.
Following the example of Christ and with his help, we commit ourselves to strive to live chastely in mind, heart, and body throughout our life. The vow of chastity is a unique kind of freedom that makes it possible for us to serve God and neighbor wholeheartedly. Immersed in the mystery of Trinitarian love we become capable of a radical and universal love.
INTIMATE UNION
A Sign of Christ’s Love
Perfect chastity in imitation of Christ is a symbol of the love between Christ and his Bride, the Church. Chastity is a precious gift of grace of the Father given to those whom he chooses. By means of it, the Holy Spirit consecrates us in an exceptional way to Jesus Christ, our Eternal High Priest so that we may be filled with God’s love. It enables us to dedicate ourselves to the Holy Trinity with an undivided heart. Like Christ, impelled by divine love, we orientate our whole lives toward the Father through the Spirit.
In Relationship with the Trinity
By embracing a deeper way of loving through the vow of chastity, we assume the responsibility to foster an intimate relationship with each Person of the Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We strive for a spontaneous cheerful self-forgetfulness and a willingness to bear sufferings and burdens without which love cannot be brought to maturity.
Chastity and the World
Chastity does not alienate us from the world. Rather, it sets us free to live in total availability in and for the world. Because our love is unrestricted, we are able to embrace all because we see Christ in them.

SPIRITUAL PARENTHOOD
As Servants of the Trinity we see our chastity as a particular call to spiritual parenthood – to be true spiritual mothers and spiritual fathers.
Instruments of God’s Love
The vow of chastity attests to the spousal love between Christ and the Church. Our vow of chastity also bears witness to supernatural fruitfulness – a fruitfulness that brings forth children of God. With God’s grace, and the help of Mary and all the angels and saints, we strive to be open vessels through whom the Holy Spirit can pour out his love to unite souls with Christ in the family of God.

Intercessors, Especially for Priests
We willingly dedicate our whole life to the worship of God, offering to the Most Holy Trinity the oblation of ourselves and all of creation. With Christ our High Priest we stand in the breach as intercessors on behalf of all God’s children. In particular, in our prayer and sacrifices, in our instruction and counsel, and with a father’s or mother’s heart, we are solicitous for priests and bishops, especially for those within our diocese.
